Canal Boat Trip & Afternoon Tea, Sunday 5th August

In previous years, our summer outing has been a canal boat trip on the Waterways Experiences Sheldrake III sailing south from Nash Mills towards Hunton Bridge. This year a total of 32 branch members, friends and family, sailed north and it was a complete contrast to previous years. The area we sailed through had been home to a number of paper mills. All but the Frogmore Paper Mill, which we visited in June, are no more. They have been replaced by new waterside housing developments that include Apsley Marina and the “Paper Mill Pub”. The Waterways Experiences crew ensured we were safe and comfortable on the boat and gave those brave enough the opportunity to pilot the boat from the tiller. To ensure we didn’t go hungry, Claire of Dalling & Co. kept us fed and watered with excellent savoury sandwiches and great scones. The following pictures capture the spirit of the afternoon.
