Saturday 23rd February 2019 – “Annual General Meeting”

On Saturday 23rd February we had our annual general meeting (AGM) for 2019. The AGM allows the opportunity for the committee to share with the branch members a review of the previous year, in terms of events, fundraising, financials and any other branch news. It also gives us, the committee, the opportunity to hear from our members and to have their input on the direction our branch is headed in terms of planned events for the coming year and fundraising opportunities.

Before the formal start of the AGM we all had lunch at the Travellers Rest who as usual looked after us well. It was great to see those who were able to make it there. Unfortunately, we were little bit short on committee members as Gillian and Ray were unable to make it and sent their apologies.

Tony as acting chairperson started off by welcoming everyone, particularly Talita returning from her maternity leave. He reviewed our events both social and fundraising throughout 2017.  We had a number of major events notably our summer canal boat trip, our Christmas pantomime outing and our visit to Frogmore Paper Mill where we found out about rhino and elephant poo paper!!  We had two fundraising events, a cake bake at the National Neurological Hospital in September to support Ataxia Awareness Day, and an afternoon tea fundraiser. In addition, we acknowledged the great work that Peter & Jeanette’s granddaughter and boyfriend did in raising £705 for Ataxia UK by taking part in a triathlon. Suggestions were sought for this year’s summer outing and it was suggested that we should explore visiting Stockwood Discovery Centre again

Tony then gave a financial summary of the branch’s funds in his role as treasurer and a summary of our fundraising activities and successes on behalf of Ray, including plans for another supper quiz in June.

To conclude the AGM, Tony reviewed the membership of the branch committee and confirmed he would no longer act as chairperson and that Talita would resume her role as chair now that she was returning from her maternity leave. It was unanimously endorsed that existing members of the committee should remain in their current roles.

Chairperson:  Talita Banoori
Treasurer: Tony Kaye
Secretary: Grace Paklayan
Fundraising: Ray Levy
Committee Members: Gillian Malcahy, Deanna Kaye, Simon Bard.

Following the official business of the AGM everyone was treated to a splendid talk by Howard T’loosty. Howard spent over thirty five years within many areas of the entertainment industry including musician, promoter, artistes’ manager and agent. He shared with us fascinating stories about Tommy Cooper, Freddie Starr, Franke Vaughan, Bruce Forsyth and other show biz luminaries. He are a few snaps taken during the afternoon including a picture of our youngest attendee as an AGM!
